Committes and Working Groups

Social Convenor Committee

The Social Convenor Committee is responsible for organizing social events and activities. LISSA generally hosts two or three times per semester, and members of this Committee will organize a variety of events that cater to different people (i.e. both virtual and in-person events, and activities for both introverted and extroverted students). They may also be called to assist with either the orientation (planned by the First Year Representative) or the graduation events (planned by the Graduation Representative and the Graduate Planning Committee) as needed.

It is possible for members to be active in this Committee for either Fall or Winter term, or for the whole school year. At least one member must attend the monthly LISSA meeting to report on the Committee’s plans and activities.

Graduation Planning Committee

Under the direction of the Graduation Representative, the Graduation Planning Committee will oversee the planning and execution of the LISSA Graduation events at the end of the school year. This committee will begin planning in December, and the bulk of the work will be during the Winter term. Depending on the number of members in this Committee and the needs of the events, they may coordinate with members of the Social Convenor Committee as needed.

Constitution and Bylaws Working Group

The Constitution and Bylaws Working Group will work with LISSA executive members to create a new set of governing documents that better reflect our values and long-term goals as a student organization, and that provide more flexibility and adaptability for our executives moving forward. The goal for this Working Group is to present a new Constitution and new Bylaws during the LISSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March 2022.

Diversity and Inclusion Working Group

The Diversity and Inclusion Working Group will work with LISSA executive members to broadly consider the specific needs of the SLIS community in terms of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and to conceptualize ways in which LISSA may help in addressing these needs moving forward. The goal for this Working Group is to identify actionable strategies for advancing DEI initiatives within SLIS, and to propose the formation of new LISSA Committees and/or student groups that are tasked with enacting these strategies. These Committees and/or student groups will be formalized during the LISSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in March 2022.
